How to clean iPhone microphone? iPhone turns to catch a lot of dust or debris on the microphone over time. The dust or debris can pile up for a long time which most time blocks the microphone and makes its performance bad. Imagine your on-call and the other person on the line cannot hear you speak, even though the network is alright.




This is the cause of the dust or debris stuck up in the microphone and in this article, I will take you through how you clean it up and get the microphone working again.



To get the debris out of the microphone, we will need some two basic things,

  • A Toothbrush – you don’t need a new toothbrush for this, look around and find some old one with a soft-bristles.
  • Alcohol – the type of alcohol to use here depends on what you have available. Rubbing or isopropyl any of this will do.



Now that you have your tools ready to clean the microphone, the first thing you have to do is locate where the microphone is on your iPhone. But to make it easy for you, we will group the iPhones and where the microphone is located.

  • Button microphone



For Phone 5, 5c, 5s, SE, 6 and 6+

And lastly, for 1st gen iPhones only have one microphone. 

with that been said, let’s get to the process of cleaning the microphone on your iPhone.

  • Step #1: Pour a bit of the alcohol into a contain, this should be small enough for the toothbrush to fit in.


  • Step #2: Gently dip the bristle into the alcohol to soak it a bit but not too much



  • Step #4: Gently brush off the dust and debris from the microphone and the speaker to for some for some few seconds. Repeat this process as many times you prefer and check to see if the debris are all gone turn move to the other microphone.


  • Step #5: Now turn to the front microphone, dip the brush into the alcohol again and gently brush it. After the front microphone has been cleaned move to the rear microphone


  • Step #6: Repeat the same process the for rear microphone too

1. With a toothpick to pick out the dirt

2. With a soft tooth brush to brush of the dirt

3. Compressed air can also be used to blow away any filth or stuck debris in the microphone

Here, you don’t need no alcohol for this, use the toothpick to get rid of the debris that the brush could not get to.

You need to be careful not to damage the speaker or the mesh with the toothpick. Don’t push too hard, gentle just as you did with cleaning the microphone with the brush.
